SENIOR PRINCIPAL HYDROGEOLOGIST
Russell has more than 35 years’ experience as a hydrogeologist with extensive Public and Private sector knowledge in water resources management, water sensitive urban design and conjunctive water use.
Russell is one of the leading technical experts globally in the field of managed aquifer recharge (MAR) including aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) and has worked on over 50 MAR/ASR projects across Australia and New Zealand for local government, industry, and mining. He possesses considerable practical experience in the investigation, economics, design, delivery, and rehabilitation of these complex systems. He is routinely requested to present technical workshops and seminars in national and international forums on the topic of MAR and clogging management.
He is a former Manager of the South Australian State Groundwater Group. His practical experience includes investigations to support mine prefeasibility studies and mine water supply studies. He has been involved in more than 20 regional groundwater resource assessment studies to support economic development and multiple integrated water management studies Russell has extensive experience in well design and rehabilitation including deep hot artesian wells in the Great Artesian Basin. Other key studies Russell has delivered include: delineation of the hydrostratigraphy of the SA portion of the Otway Basin; sustainable yield estimations for critical groundwater management units of the Murray Darling Basin and throughout SA, and the Bolivar Reclaimed Water ASR Research Project.
Russell possesses a sound knowledge of groundwater numerical and hydrogeochemical modelling applications; has extensive experience in drilling supervision; groundwater policy, well design; geological mapping; stratigraphic interpretation; aquifer testing and analysis; remote sensing imagery and lineament analysis; seismic and geophysical log interpretation; and economic modelling of water management options.
