Dr Ricky Murray

Professional/Specialisation : Groundwater Resources Assessment, Exploration, Planning and Management, Managed Aquifer Recharge
Qualifications : Ph. D. Geohydrology, University of the Free State, 2002
M.Sc (with distinction) Geohydrology, Rhodes University, 1997
B.Sc (Geology / Geography majors), Rhodes University, 1980

Key qualifications
Dr Murray is a hydrogeologist with extensive experience in groundwater exploration, resource assessments and management. One of his main focuses is on optimising groundwater supply schemes by ensuring all boreholes are pumped optimally, by training local operators and by integrating groundwater with surface water schemes. To this end he developed Department of Water Affairs’ artificial recharge strategy and has designed a number of integrated water supply schemes. His specific areas of expertise lie in borehole siting (including remote sensing, geological mapping and geophysics), aquifer and borehole yield assessments, groundwater management systems, artificial recharge or Managed Aquifer Recharge, groundwater chemistry, water related strategy and policy development, groundwater law and education.
